In June 2007, 2 managers who had been involved in managing girls teams for a local boys club moved away to start their own girls section which had links with another local Sports Association. The success of the initial development of girls football was rewarded with 4 girls teams with 4 FA Level 2 Managers.
At the end of the 2008-2009 a local boys manager worked with a lady who, along with her friends wanted to get into a team and play competitive football. There then followed a number of calls, emails, texts, organising and the next thing you know the 1st Burntwood Phoenix Ladies were together. The Sports Association boys club voted out the ladies team joining so with 2 weeks before season starting we created Burntwood Phoenix FC completely on its own run by 2 FA Level 2 Coaches whose main aim was player development - in our first season we came 2nd in the league to be beaten to top of the league by local rivals Chasetown in a game that ended up a draw when we needed the points (if someone would have said 2nd in the league in 1st season a lot of managers would be happy).
The name of Burntwood Phoenix came from when the founders of Burntwood Phoenix linked with another local boys club and the search for a name came about. From Belles, Stars, Flames and a variety of other names that got thrown in the pot, it was Phoenix that stood out initiated from the Westfield Phoenix FC and the Peter Kay series “Phoenix Nights”.
The Phoenix founders are still involved with girls and women's football and continue to promote the female sport with key special individuals who have joined in the Phoenix ways of coaching girls to high standards. As well as the coaches still being involved, three of the teams still retain many of the girls who originally came along to the early sessions and have continued to play competitive football.
To complement the quality of the players and the quality of the coaches, the Phoenix became a Charter Standard Club after 104 days of being in operation - an achievement that has taken other clubs years to obtain.
